Joseph Horswell Biography
A native of Southern California, Joseph Horswell’s professional career has spanned four decades, covering a wide variety of instrumental and vocalstyles, including Classical, Broadway, Big-band Jazz, Bop, Blues, Soul, Fusion, Pop, Rock, Smooth Jazz, Country, Latin, Gospel and Contemporary Christian music.
Throughout the years, Horswell has worked with a diverse list of well-known industry heavyweights. His credits include live performances, recording sessions, and album cameos with an enviable list of prominent artists, studio musicians, Grammy winners and nominees such as:
Latin Trumpeter Bobby Rodriguez, Pianist Roger Kellaway, Soul group "The Brothers Johnson", Country artist Michael Martin Murphy, Latin Percussionist Tito Puente, Pop singer Jim Messina, R & B singer Joe Cocker, R & B
singer Kim Wilson ("The Fabulous Thunderbirds"), Latin composer/percussionist Luis Munoz, the laterenowned studio guitarist Tommy Tedesco, vocalist Jeanne Tatum, the late local guitar monster Larry Nass (Aerto Morea and Flora Purim), as well as show openings for “Tower of Power”, “The Average White Band”, “The Crusaders”, Steve Winwood, and legendary Jazz Trumpeter Freddy Hubbard.
Horswell continues to perform throughout Southern California with several different groups including, "The Joseph Horswell Quartet", "The Contemporary Jazz Trio", "The Fusion Jazz Quintet", and the original "Pentasonic" (established 14 years ago).
From 2009-2014, Horswell was the staff Saxophone teacher at The Thacher School in Ojai CA, as well as the Assistant Thacher Jazz Band Director. He was also formerly the woodwind teacher and Assistant Jazz Band Director at Cate School in Carpinteria CA, from 2008-2013. From 1999-2015 Horswell's home studio private lessons produced top musicians from the local area schools, many of whom have gone on to have lucrative, professional musical careers, themselves.

Barbara CA, and a WGNA certification in Wideband Gigabit Network Administration from
the International Academy of Sciences, in Independence MO. He
Healso holds a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Chang Hun Taekwondo Do, and was formerly an ITF and USTA certified martial arts instructor. Horswell also formerly taught criminal countermeasures seminars to Ventura County peace officers, as well as assault prevention and self-defense courses for women.
Horswell resides in Bear Valley Springs, CA. When not performing or teaching,
he enjoys spending time with his family, working out at the gym, riding and taking care of his horses, working outside on his ranch, target
shooting, reading, attending the theater & museums, off-roading,
astronomy, and of course playing the Saxophone and singing for personal
